Facebook Openly Opposes Firearm Safety Measures

Obtaining a license here in Australia is quite an involved process. It can take up to 3 months to obtain and is generally issued to anyone, provided you pass a background check and complete a police approved & designed firearm safety course. During the course, students are taught about firearms legislation, safe storage, safe handling and are required to do a practical shooting exercise to demonstrate their ability to follow the basic firearm safety rules.

10618NAT – Course in Firearms Safety, is a nationally accredited course that is delivered by suitably qualified and licensed instructors. Many instructors use social media to advertise their courses to those that are looking to obtain their licenses for either recreational or occupational uses.

Firearm safety is common sense, but facebook seems to oppose it. Just recently, I created a post to advertise upcoming safety courses. To reach more potential students, I boosted the post in order to increase its exposure. All was going swimmingly until the paid impressions stopped unexpectedly. I investigated and found that my ad was in breach of their advertising policy and my ad account had been permanently closed. Their policy specifically states: Advertising that promotes the use of guns is not allowed.

I thought I was promoting safety that is a benefit to the whole community.

I couldn’t believe it. I am teaching honest, law abiding citizens a police approved and mandated course, specifically designed to make us safer with our guns! I decided to appeal the decision and a few days later I received the below reply.

Hi Chris,
I had another look at your ad account and unfortunately, we won't be able to re-enable it.
All ad accounts are evaluated for policy compliance and quality of ad content. When accounts run ads that don't follow our Advertising Policies, they're disabled.
There's no further action that you may take here. We don't support ads for your business model.
Please consider this decision final.

If they get their way, you wont be able to!

I really worry for the future of our society. These tech giants are able to selectively censor us in order to shape the future to be the way they want it.

If it's guns today, what are they going after next?
